Blog #2 Sept 14 - 17

The traits of duty, piety, and loyalty were highly prized by the ancient Romans. What three traits would students choose to define the ideal American citizen? Is it even possible to create such a definition in today's society?

  1. We live in a very diverse society. One might think that it is impossible to create three universally accepted traits for the ideal American citizen, especially because everything becomes a political issue lately. Based on my morals and views I believe it is possible to define such three traits. The three traits I choose to define the ideal American citizen are loyalty to the country, respecting the diversity, and actively participating in the democratic processes such as elections and in the legal system (jury). Others might think there are other ideal traits such as self-reliance, creativity, responsibility, motivation, and being well educated. Even my self is having a difficult time prioritizing these traits. Therefore my answer is people will not agree to three traits.

  2. To define the ideal American citizen, 3 traits would be to be loyal to the country, vote or participate in an election for government, and to follow or obey the laws of the country. It depends if its possible to create such a definition in today's society. If people are not following laws, not paying bills, etc. then the country would be corrupt. Mabye if people follow laws, don't commit crime, etc. then the country would be safe. In today's society we have both.

  3. The three traits that would define an ideal American citizen are to be loyal to your country, to respect the diversity that your country has, and to obey the laws that the leaders of the country provide. I don't think it is possible to create such a definition in today's society because I can almost guarantee that most people have different opinions on different things.

  4. Three traits that could define an american citizen include ambitious, intelligent (street smarts & book smart) and, loyal. I don't believe so because if we are always living up to what people say then we aren't being ourselves. In America we are all about being ourselves and doing what we most desire.

  5. The ideal American citizen is patriotic, aware and hard-working. However, this is the ideal citizen, the majority of Americans are not ideal citizens and choose to focus on themselves and not as a person who is a part of a society. We are much to engrossed in our own problems and everyday conflicts to be the model member of our communities, this is a downfall for America because the country worked at its best when everyone was involved.

  6. In america, you should be hard working, always find time for family, and last but not least, helping and spreading ideas. These all existed back then. Spreading ideas came mostly with trade and speeches on religion along with politics. Family was not as big as it was now, but it was. Back then, hard working was just a part of every day society.

  7. The three traits I would choose to define the ideal American citizen would be loyalty to the nation, determination for success, and holding respect for fellow citizens. I think it is definitely difficult to define an ideal American citizen because everybody's views could be different regarding what that would be.

  10. Every single one of these answers is unique and very opinionated, I agree and disagree with many of the other comments. I believe that the ideal american should be determined, aware, and not afraid to stand up for whats morally right. Unfortunatly, these ideal americans are only a small percentage of our ginormous population.

They characterize because the americans are loyal to their country, kids go to school, and they have a strict religion with good morals.
